Formerly OpenDevin, the leading open-source autonomous software-engineering platform: Docker-sandboxed agents that write code, run commands, browse, and open PRs, with a production agent SDK hitting 72% on SWE-bench Verified (Claude Sonnet 4.5) and its own broader OpenHands Index benchmark launched Jan 2026.

The AutoGen + Semantic Kernel convergence (1.0 GA April 2026) for .NET and Python, whose BUILD 2026 'Agent Harness' made production patterns first-class — shell/filesystem access, human-in-the-loop approvals, context compaction, todo tracking, plan/execute modes, AgentSkillsProvider skill discovery, and BackgroundAgentsProvider subagents — with hosted execution via Microsoft Foundry.

Copilot's agent mode inside VS Code (extension itself MIT open-sourced; backend service proprietary) iterates on errors, runs tools/terminal, and applies multi-file edits, distinguished by deep GitHub-ecosystem reach: MCP support, SKILL.md Agent Skills (added April 2026), custom .agent.md agents, a multi-vendor model picker with Ollama BYOK, and a cloud 'coding agent' that works issues into PRs on GitHub Actions.

Anthropic's cloud-hosted Claude Code at claude.ai/code: each session gets an isolated Anthropic-managed VM with the GitHub repo cloned and limited default network access, supports parallel steerable sessions across repos with automatic PR creation, sessions persist after browser close and are monitorable from the Claude mobile app; bundled with Pro/Max/Team/Enterprise plans (research preview).

AWS's fully managed, configuration-defined agent harness (GA June 17, 2026): two API calls (CreateHarness/InvokeHarness) stand up an agent with its own isolated session environment, filesystem and shell, cross-session memory, a curated skills catalog, and web browsing, running any Bedrock, OpenAI, Gemini, or LiteLLM-compatible model with mid-session provider switching and no separate harness charge.
